Job Description

Gunderson Dettmer is seeking an  Attorney Development Manager in our Silicon Valley office. The Attorney Development Manager will work in conjunction with the Chief Talent Officer, the Senior Director of Attorney Development, practice group chairs, and other members of firm leadership to develop and implement strategic learning and development initiatives for firm attorneys.

The ideal candidate for this hybrid role is a self-starter, who is able to work independently, but also thrives in a collaborative team environment.

Essential Job Functions

  • Manage productivity through oversight of the staffing and workload monitoring processes for associates in the Tech and Corporate practice groups.
  • Work with Accounting/Finance teams to prepare and circulate weekly hours reports.
  • Administer the firm’s mid-year and end-of-year evaluation processes.
  • Collaborate with the Tech and Corporate partners to implement strategic initiatives related to associate career planning and advancement.
  • Promote and encourage attendance at firm training programs.
  • Provide coaching to associates on work allocation, learning and education planning and career goal setting.
  • Oversee engagements with external executive coaches.
  • Assign partner mentors to new associates, provide resources to facilitate mentoring program engagement and solicit program feedback.
  • Facilitate and foster communication and building rapport among partners, associates, business professionals and members of firm leadership.
  • Conduct exit interviews for departing associates.
  • Liaise with firm departments to facilitate associate arrivals/departures and office transfers.
  • Lead orientation meetings for new associates and laterals.
  • Schedule and prepare for training programs, retreats, meetings, and special events.
  • Supervise Attorney Development Coordinator.
  • Travel to other firm offices as required.

Required Education & Experience 

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 3+ years of related professional development experience preferably in a large law firm environment.
  • Possesses strong technology skills including Word, Excel & PowerPoint.
  • Exhibits strong interpersonal, organization and communication skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrates sound judgment, the ability to foster an inclusive work environment and maintain confidentiality when dealing with sensitive information.

Preferred Education & Experience 

  • J.D. and law firm practice preferred (Corporate/Emerging Companies & Venture Capital (ECVC) experience is a plus).
  • 3+ years in a supervisory role preferred.
  • Experience with viGlobal modules.

Status

  • Full-Time, Exempt.

The expected hiring salary for this position is $120,000 - $160,000 annually, dependent upon qualifications and experience.
